Passion in the Hills

Come on in

I am a passionate creature, I can’t help myself. I love being around people who have a genuine lust for what they do. I think something magical happens when a person pours themselves into the creative process, so it follows I love to wander around galleries. My weakness is not for shoes, but for paintings. I always try to buy things from local artists wherever I can. Whenever I discover a new collective or gallery, it feels like stumbling on a little Pandora’s box of delights. If you find the person running the gallery is as special as the goodies inside, well then you have struck gold.

Lovely things everywhere

Michelle is the first to admit she is a people person, you can tell that from when you first meet her. She has a beautiful smile and a warm personality which keeps people coming back to her gallery. You often find an author or artist popping in for tea here, because Michelle make customers feel valued as friends and that is a rare quality. Her gallery ‘Just add Passion’ is the best kept secret in in the hills, nestled in heart of Stoneville, a short leafy drive from Mundaring it is the perfect antidote to a stressful day.

A Big Ole Rainbow Unicorn of a place

I find it hard to put my finger on why I love this gallery so much. Firstly, there is an eclectic mix of beautiful artworks, about forty artists in all who showcase their talents in every conceivable medium. The walls are filled with canvases, prints, sculptures and photography across four rooms, but there’s more to it than that. ‘Just add passion’ is also brimming with home textiles, wearable art, candles, bags and some of the most stunning artisan jewellery you will find outside the city.

I don’t know what it is but I need this in my life

Perhaps it is the way Michelle’s curates everything under her loving care. As a writer and artist herself, she appreciates the love that goes into creating a piece of work. She is a strong advocate of supporting artists based in WA and especially those local to the gallery. This is evident in her growing book room where there are exceptional reads, floor to ceiling including a growing collection of children’s books by local grown talent. She also has a fabulous eye for capturing those quirky special little items you only find in bespoke galleries. Every time I go up I seem to find something new and exciting that I’m sure wasn’t there before.

Think I might need these too

Michelle has a spiritual side that you would expect from a lady who used to run her own retreat, and she has accommodated for that inner peace here to. Hidden among the arty treasures you will find a secret sanctuary of restful, beautiful, rooms. Here you can treat yourself to some well deserved ‘me’ time, by booking a massage or Reiki sessions, that will leave you blissed out and floating out the door.

Another wonderful Artwork in Michelle’s Gallery

Michelle herself however, is always busy and buzzing with ideas to spread the love. She is always the first to open up her gallery doors and foster a creative hub in her community, whether that is organizing creative spaces for workshops or being a collection point for the worthy causes that put women’s needs at the forefront, like the ‘share the dignity’ campaign she is a collection point for. There is a hive of talent that thrives in an accepting space, where people make room for it, and these artists deserve to be shown a little love. So, over the next few weeks, I would like to share some of the special ladies and their talents who are living their creative lives to the fullest. I hope their passion inspires you towards your own creative dreams.
